Brand Guidelines

The brand guidelines I focused on was Adidas. They had a simple yet sleek design. While scrolling through their package, I noticed how detailed it was. Adidas had everything laid out and the do's and don't of their logos. I also liked how they gave examples of how their logo should look on things like buildings, trucks, and even apparel. It gave it more of a realistic idea of what the logo should look and feel like.

Another section I liked in their book was the application of the logo. It overviewed how the logo can be applied in stores. It was something I never noticed, but their shoes are lined up to replicate their "Three Stripe Life" which is the motto Adidas uses.

Black Mirror

 Daily Mail:

In China, they are pretty much ranking citizens based on what goods they are buying. Depending on what goods you purchase, there is either or boost or a decrease in credit and also social standing. Also, any actions you take can affect your "score" as well. If you are ranked high enough, you can get VIP access. This includes VIP lounges at airports, hotels, and access to top universities. It is thought that this is a way China can track their 1.4 billion people and keep them in good standing.

WIRED Magazine:

This was more of a personal story with Liu. He was in UK and recently moved back to China. When he arrived, he noticed a big change. He paid for virtually everything on his phone. Mobile payments were a way to track and boost credit. Everyone here did it, but you needed a specific app, like Alipay or WeChat. These two apps tracked what you were to buy and based off of that you could see an increase or decrease in credit. By using this as some sort of "incentive" it monitored what people did and how they lived their lives. You needed good credit to afford housing and things of that matter. With bad credit, affordable housing was not easy to come by.

Did Google Make Us Stupid?

After reading through the article, I believe there are many ways the author wanted us to think about when it comes to our lives being influenced by the internet. The article made clear that the more access we have to the internet, the more likely our lives would be easier and manipulated, that many of us will stop thinking for ourselves, all because we have Google. Yes, having access does have its perks, but the author told us that nowadays we are not getting as much out of things as we should. For example, reading from a book has now changed. Many read on a screen, which decreases our comprehension rate. Although I don't believe Google has made us stupid, I think it just proves the point that we are lazy. But it also proves another common quote that I like to use- "Work smarter, not harder." If I could get the answers through Google, there is really no point to read and find the answers, it just seems like a waste of time.

Welcome to the Future

This song went from reminiscing of the past to the present. It explained what people used to go through and the trials and tribulations of their past lives. Brad Paisley wrote this song when he felt inspired once Barack Obama was elected into the presidency. He wanted to show how far the nation had come and what the future would look like. One thing interesting I read about the lyrics was when he was talking about fighting the war in Japan (His grandfather) to our idea of fighting-- playing Pacman on an iPhone.

Viral Video

 Star Wars Kids

Ghyslain Raza made this video with no intention of it becoming viral, and no intention to even post. He uses a golf ball retriever to imitate Darth Maul's lightsaber. He actually became a victim of bullying because of this post and uses it as a way to speak out against bullying.

Antoine Dodson

He became viral after a home invasion and this led to a song called "Bed Intruder Song" autotuned by The Gregory Brothers. They took his interview and created this viral song. This song reached #89 on billboards Hot 100 list.

Article Reflections

1. Reading in a Whole New Way

The way we read and write is dynamic and ever-changing
We have changed the way we read and write to fit what works the lifestyle
Everything around writing and reading bounces off each other
Always in a world of reading/writing as it is basically with us 24/7
It has influenced visual communication as well
Range from letter, abbreviations, and symbols
More active at "doing"-- looking up words with access to the internet

Because of screens, were reading a lot more than we think
Do a lot of skimming
A lot more options with digital reading
Digital reading can take away from the in-depth thought process that we get from paper reading
Easier to have a connection/memory from turning a page and having actual touch rather than scrolling
Digital reading has more room for distractions as opposed to paper reading.

I Used to Wait

Phones/digital comm have had a huge influence on our lives

Much more expressive in writing letters

No more waiting to get info from others

Never have to sign names when communicating

People used to wait/ never receive letters from people

Be in own thoughts rather than the world's thoughts
